New York

Alyx and I got back from a trip to New York City last Saturday. We went to check out some art schools, since she wants to major in fashion design. We checked out Pratt in Brooklyn, Parsons (Project Runway for those who know) and FIT in Manhattan. All three are very impressive schools. Alyx has her work cut out for her, having to send portfolios to all three, as well as a special project for Parsons, and at least one essay.

We visited Pratt first, since it was the closest to our hotel in Brooklyn. Pratt has a very nice, closed campus. People from the surrounding neighborhoods can walk through the campus during the day, but at night, the gates are closed and the only way in is through the guard gate.

We checked out Parsons next, located in Greenwich Village, then on to FIT in Chelsea. I was impressed with the security of all three schools. Makes me feel a little better dropping my daughter off in the city.

We also visited a Jewish neighborhood in Williamsburg, which is in Brooklyn, Coney Island, and various locations in and around Manhattan, including the Apple Store, Times Square, the Fashion District, and Washington Square Park. We took the subway everywhere, and pretty much had it learned on the second day.

This was about the closest we got to the Statue of Liberty with the camera.

The Apple Store.

Nicholas Cage tried to hang out with us, but we were too busy.

Alyx and I knocked out this sidewalk art in about 5 minutes.

Okay, we both look cool.

Heading down for yet another subway ride.
