Photo Shoot in LA

Had to go to LA on Friday for a Baylor University photo shoot. Angela Kinsey, an actress in "The Office" TV show, is a Baylor alum, and part of my ad agency's before and after ad campaign for Baylor. Our mission was to fly into LA, rent a van, pick up whatever props we could get our hands on, and then shoot Angela at her house, staying there for only 2 hours. And, those 2 hours included other shots for a Baylor magazine.

I travelled with Sparky Witte, from account services in our agency. Sparky drove the rental van in LA traffic, no small feat in itself. The prop house in West Hollywood was amazing. Everything you can think of crammed into 4 Wal Mart-sized warehouses, from giant Easter Island heads to a full sized church confessional, to office equipment from multiple genres. Fun times.

Angela was very accommodating, allowing us access to her house and taking our direction and running with it.

Here are some shots from LA. Some outtakes from the shoot will come soon, after we get the images from the photographer.

Easter Island heads for rent.

The prop house had absolutely anything you could imagine, like mounted fish and bull horns.

Any kitchen item (or whole kitchen) you need is there.

An actual London Underground subway map.

Assorted garden gnomes.

World's largest sliderule.

Any piece of luggage you need.

Vintage TV.

The mind behind Capt. Kirk and Spock.

This one's for Matthew.

Caught these guys loitering in front of Grauman's Chinese Theater.

Home Makeover

Stacy and I recently ripped out the carpet downstairs and stained the concrete. The prep work was brutal, but it was worth it. And as if that wasn't enough, we decided to repaint the dining room and build a new dining room table. We used a door from our vast collection as the tabletop, and I added the legs and skirting.

We moved bookshelves in to create a library-type space.

We painted over the maroon color of the walls to lighten things up. Stacy picked a really nice green and brown pattern to reupholster the chairs.

The door tabletop. All we have to do now is get some glass cut for the top to finish it off.

A closeup of one of the chairs with Stacy's upholstery. Notice the painted border on the floor.
